Max the Gorilla sits in his cage at the Johannesburg Zoo August 19. Max became one of South Africa's crime victims on July 18 when he was shot by a terrified robber on the run. The man fleeing from police scaled a moat and jumped into Max's enclosure at Johannesburg zoo. When Max tried to defend his turf and his partner Lisa, the robber fired two shots at him, lodging one bullet in his shoulder while the second went through his neck.
