Image description

Mikie Nakata (L) and Hiroko Kiriyama (R) weep as they peer into the ocean on March 20, 2001 where the Japanese fishing boat Ehime Maru sank nine miles south of Honolulu February 9, 2001, after colliding with the submarine USS Greeneville. Nakata and Kiriyama are family members of the nine men that were never found after the Ehime Maru sank. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori and the families were taken aboard a commercial ship for a three hour roundtrip from Honolulu Harbor to the offshore site to pay their respects to the missing crewmen.
