Italian Moto GP rider Valentino Rossi celebrates his victory after winning the Rio Grand Prix, at the Nelson Piquet race track in Rio de Janeiro, September 21, 2002. The Honda rider, who won the final 500cc championship last year before it was renamed MotoGP and opened up to more powerful four-stroke machines, claimed his 10th win in 12 races this season in a dramatic race held in wet, slippery conditions. The 23-year-old opened up an unassailable lead of 106 points with four races left over compatriot and arch-rival Max Biaggi, who finished second in the race and moved up to second in the championship.
