Zacharakis, Centre, Director of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Head of Press of the Cyprus Conference, reads the communique in front of the assembled press on 11 February 1959 at the Grand Hotel Dolder in Zurich, Switzerland, after the end of the conference. At the conference in Zurich, partial contracts, agreements and declarations for the transition of the former British crown colony Cyprus to the independent Republic of Cyprus were debated. After further negotiations in London, Turkey, Greece, Great Britain and Cyprus sign the Zurich and London Agreements on 19 February 1959 in London, which regulate the constitutional issues of the State of Cyprus.
