Switzerland Ski Patrol Des Glaciers, 1984 (b/w photo)

A patrol during the “Patrouille des Glaciers”, cheered on by numerous spectators, runs to the finish in Verbier. The skis must be worn on the last section. The Patrouille des Glaciers, a long-distance race from Zermatt to Verbier, will be held for the fourth time on May 6, 1984 after a break of 35 years. Now civilian patrols, men's, women's, and mixed triple patrols can take part in this military skialpinism competition of the Swiss army. The patrols have to cover a distance of 53 kilometres with a height difference of 7800 metres. In 1984, 600 people took part in the patrol.
