Asian elephant Kuhcharat pulls 20 people as a show of strength at an elephant conservation park at the ancient Thai capital of Ayutthaya February 14, 2002. Kuhcharat was "married" to female Asian elephant Numvhan in a ceremony on Valentine's Day after which breeders hope they will mate. Elephant populations have declined substantially in all countries during the past few decades. The population of Asian elephants stands at between 35,000 and 50,000 in the wild with an additional 15,000 in captivity, a total population which is less than 10 percent of its much publicised cousin, the African elephant.
