Image description

Crook of Lune was the model for an engraving for T.D. Whitaker’s The History of Richmondshire. Turner has observed the dramatic loop in the River Lune from the popular viewing ‘station’ above the main Lancaster road. The serpentine ribbon of water winds its way through the valley to the far horizon, shaping the landscape into complex patterns of light and colour.
