Creator: Uden, Ernest Boye (1911-86) A fire crew rushes to the quay side with a water cannon to attend to a fire, London, 1940. Smoke billows from around the corner and in the background, warehouses and cranes are bathed in a red glow. Ernest Boye Uden was a British official war artist trained at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, and served in the Auxiliary Fire Service in the Second World War. After the war, he produced commercial art for British Gas, Daimler, Dunlop, ICI and the Radio Times.
