C.H.S. watercolor drawings of Indians of North, South, and Central American, the West Indies, and Mexico, copied from various sources, ca. 1843-ca. 1850 Drawing No. 23. Mohawk civil chief with chest tattoos, red cloak, and white tunic stands in front of a tree holding a musket. He wears downy white feathers over each ear, sash with powderhorn, ax, decorated belt and moccasins with red ribbons. A bear lies at his feet, bleeding from the mouth. Rendering of Jan Verelst's oil painting commissioned for the meeting of four chiefs of the Iroquois Confederacy with Queen Anne in London, 1710.
