King's Indian Orderly Officers, 1936. Photograph by C Vandyk, 1936. The posts of King’s Indian Orderly Officers were established by the Viceroy of India in 1903. Specially selected British and Indian officers and NCOs were thereafter appointed each year for the London season, from April to August, and attended the King at court, official engagements and ceremonies like Trooping the Colour. The personnel depicted are: (centre front) Major E N Goddard, 3/12th Frontier Force Regiment; (rear left) Subadar Major Harditt Singh, 2/11th Sikh Regiment; (rear right) Subadar Ishar Singh VC, 4/15th Punjab Regiment; (front left) Bhagat Singh, 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers and (front right) Rissaldar Major Narain Singh, 6th Duke of Connaught’s Lancers (Watson's Horse). From a collection of 33 photographs, 1903-1938 (mostly taken by Vandyk).
