'Mouse' a Grey Pony and a Spaniel in a Landscape

Weaver, Shrewsbury Pinxit 1824. A grey pony and a spaniel. The pony faces right, standing in a landscape, the brown and white spaniel stands looking up at it. The pony has white flecks on its rump and body. (Inventory card). Thomas Weaver, born in Shropshire, was noted for animal subjects and particularly for his portraits of pedigree cattle and sheep. He painted several of the Calke prize-winning cattle. Isabel Harpur Crewe indicated that this is 'Mouse' a favourite pony of Sir John Harpur Crewe, 8th Bt. Calke Abbey, Derbyshire (Accredited Museum)
