Image description

Unconditional Surrender propaganda in anti-fascist exhibition The Nature of the Enemy at Rockefeller Center, 1943. The Nature of the Enemy exhibition was staged in the plaza of Rockefeller Center from May 17 to July 4, 1943 by the OWI, Office of War Information, during World War II. Themes included the desecration of religion, militarization of children, abolition of justice, and slave labour. This wartime propaganda in Manhattan depicted Axis powers, especially Hitler’s Germany, as a serious threat to American values. Protestant Christianity was highlighted as a cornerstone of American culture. President Roosevelt created OWI in June 1942 to create and spread pro-ally propaganda both in the United States and abroad during World War II. Photo by Volkmar Wentzel
