The star SAO 152320, in the center of the image, illuminates this nebula located in the constellation Unicorn, about 4000 years old - light from Earth. Curtains of gas and dust dramatically open here to reveal the inner region of this starforming region. Unceremoniously named, bright star SAO 152320 shines with intense light in the center of this field. Clouds of gas glow strongly and dust shrinks quickly under its radiative prowess. This vista lies some 4,000 light years away towards the constellation of Monoceros. This is a portion of a much larger nebula called Gum 1

Unlike most barred spirals, this galaxy has multiple arms. It's assumed that a black hole sits in its center. Barred spiral galaxy NGC 613 obtained with the FORS1 and FORS2 multi - mode instruments (at VLT MELIPAL and YEPUN, respectively) on December 16 - 18, 2001. It is a composite of three exposures in different wavebands. NGC 613 is a beautiful barred spiral galaxy in the southern constellation Sculptor. This galaxy is inclined by 32 degrees and, contrary to most barred spirals, has many arms that give it a tentacular appearance. Prominent dust lanes are visible along the large - scale bar. The latter, called CG4, is located about 1300 light years ago in the constellation of Pupus. Its head is 1.5 years light and its tail extends for 8 years. This cloud is a star-forming region. A spiral galaxy seen by the slice (ESO 257 - 19) is visible at the top left. It is located 100 million years later. The odd looking “” creature”” to the right of center in the above photo is a gas cloud known as a cometary globule.This globule, however, has ruptured. Cometary globules are typically characterized by dusty heads and elongated tails. These features cause cometary globules to have visual similarities to comets, but in reality they are very much different.
