People of the port city Chittagong brings out a mourning rally at the Central Shaheed Minar, this afternoon, in memory of the soldiers and civilians killed in the two day long mutiny at the Bangladesh Rifles, BDR, Headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka on 25th and 26th February, 2009. The unruly BDR soldiers took over the BDR headquarters, killed army officers including the Director-General, fired on some civilians, held many of their officers hostage, vandalized property and looted valuables. By the second day unrest spread to 12 other towns and cities. The mutiny ended as the mutineers surrendered their arms and released the hostages after a series of discussions and negotiations with the government. Close association with native Africans during his survey work convinced Guggisberg that the African races and Muslims of the Middle East and Asia were capable of eventually attaining the development levels of modern Europe. He founded Achimota College for the training of native teachers and instructors. It was later to become the largest establishment for the education of native Africans.

A replica stone of the inscription over the central doorway of the Atiya Mosque. It is situated in the village of Atiya under Delduar Thana in Tangail district, about six kilometers south of the district headquarters. The mosque was constructed in 1019 AH, 1610-11 AD, during the reign of Emperor Jahangir by Sayeed Khan Panni, son of Baizid Khan Panni, in honour of Shah Baba Kashmiri. Atiya came into prominence after the arrival of a great saint Shah Baba Kashmiri, who propagated Islam in this part of Bengal. Nijhum Dwip (Nijhum island) once known as Char Osman is a small island under Hatiya Upazila in Noakhali district in Bangladesh. There was no settlement on the island until 1970 before which people used to come to the island on seasonal basis. The island was included in the Hatiya constituency in the early 70s. At that time a large number of people from Hatiya, Shahbajpur and Ramgati, losing their lands and homes in riverbank erosion migrated to the island as new settlers. The Forest Department of the government of Bangladesh created mangrove forest on the island and in 2001 declared it as National Park.
